Mobile Order Management Application

Dayton Power & Light needed a rewrite of their legacy dispatch administration database application. New functional requirements included real time order synchronization between dispatchers and field techs, local offline data storage, push notifications for cancelled or changed orders, and the ability to display route information on a map in both street and satellite views. The original hand-held windows PDA devices were to be replaced with iPad Minis running a robust, full-featured HTML 5 solution.

As UX Analyst and Team Lead, Steve:

  • Organized and led agile UX design sessions with key stakeholders

Strategy Document

The Ministry of Agriculture required a set of strategies and a development roadmap for their AgriFoodBC Growing Connections online service.

As business analyst and lead author of the strategy document AgriFoodBC Growing Connections: Strategy and Roadmap, Steve:

  • Analyzed key audiences and audience needs
  • Defined a set of strategies for a self-service delivery model in accordance with the Citizens @ the Centre B.C. Government 2.0 strategy
  • Recommended a content strategy incorporating the latest findings in social media user-generated content

  • Proposed a phased development roadmap to implement the strategy over three years

BC Newsroom

The BC Newsroom gives citizens and the media one place to get news, factsheets, feature stories, photos, video, audio, and access to all government social media channels. The Communications and Media Relations Division of GCPE wanted to extend the service by adding a subscribe feature, creating a distribution service to replace a third-party service, and building an administration tool to manage all aspects of subscription and distribution.

As development team lead on the project, Steve:

  • Collaborated with technical and application architects to derive the overall solution architecture
  • Managed the development project team and reported on project status, burn rate, and milestones

Media Relations App

The media relations contact database application is used by Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) staff performing media relations functions. It is also used by staff in the Premier’s Office. The Media Relations Unit of GCPE needed to replace the original application with one built to current government standards and capable of running on a wide variety of mobile devices.

As development team lead on the project, Steve:

Work BC Job Search

WorkBC Job Search is a powerful free job search portal that centralizes job listings and includes jobs entered in the system as well as those scraped from external job boards like Workopolis, Monster and company websites.

As business analyst and project manager on the project, Steve:

Opportunities BC

The International Trade and Investment Attraction branch of the Ministry of Jobs Tourism and Skills Development wanted an online searchable database of business and project opportunities within British Columbia suitable for foreign investment. Opportunities BC allows B.C. businesses to enter opportunities and be matched up with an economic development officer from their surrounding community who will serves as their point of contact for potential foreign investors.

As project manager, Steve:

  • Coordinated a series of webinars involving key stakeholders throughout the design and development phases
  • Managed the UX design and development teams throughout all project phases Website

The BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation required the integration of several standalone labour market-related web sites into a single one-stop integrated site – WorkBC.

Build a Career Smartphone App

The BC Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation wanted to build an innovative, fun, interactive smartphone application, targeted at young adults (ages 15-25). Netscribe designed and developed Build A Career, a cross-platform smartphone application that helps youth explore career choices through an interactive and immersive user experience.

As business analyst for Netscribe, Steve:

  • Provided an engagement strategy based on the principles of community-based social marketing and challenge-based learning
  • Adapted the quiz questions for smartphone by simplifying the presentation and reverse-engineering the quiz algorithms
  • Determined the appropriate application architecture to deliver a native application to three different platforms in a very short timeframe
  • Managed the production of ten original videos featuring “hot jobs”
  • Developed project plans, determined business requirements, tracked milestones and deliverables
